Varnish is a clear protective spray that is applied to the canvas after printing. The varnish does not yellow over time. The varnish helps protect canvas from harmful UV light and seals the inks in the canvas to prevent water damage. We offer this service at no charge. We use Breathing Color's Glamour II Giclee Veneer Gloss. This is how Breathing Color describes it:
"Glamour™ II Veneer, a proprietary canvas varnish (and/or giclee varnish), has been developed to protect, preserve and enhance fine art and photographic prints produced on digital inkjet printers. This new non yellowing, water based canvas varnish is a perfect solution for easy inkjet print finishing. Glamour™ II will enhance the color of pigmented and ultrachrome inks on matte media and increase resistance to image fading. It will protect your expensive images against moisture and abrasion."

The most common question we get about our canvas varnish is: Can I paint on top of the varnish coating? The answer is that our canvas varnish coating has been known to work with various artist paints for embellishment, however it is always recommended that you perform a test on a small portion first.
That being said we have a number of customers that paint on the canvas and the artists at Digital Photos on Canvas paint on their own canvas prints. The majority of the people that have painted on our canvas agree that if you are using oil paints it is best to have the canvas varnished first and if using acrylic paints it is good varnished or not varnished.
